The Away From Our heritage project started in late 2005, when Nirmal was discovering her roots, and trying to learn more about her heritage from an insider's point of view. During this time, she made shocking and sometimes painful discoveries. She then began to realize how important it was to help teach others to preserve their culture's morals, and make others aware of the shameful things going on in eastern culture. She felt this was her sacred duty, and still does. Especially because when you're a mix, no one expects anything from you - it's understood that you will either pretend to love your culture and then go on to do and support shameful things, or you completely abandon your roots. She enlisted friends and family to join her work. In 2008, this blog was created........It has served its purpose, and has brought some good work along with it. It has also brought some controversy as well. The best things in life are the things that get under your skin, and cause you to have to look at yourself, even when you don't like when you can't hide the monster under your bed. That being said, 4 years later, 2012, rings in a new era for us. We have outgrown this site. We also have become disgusted with the amount of shameful trash using blogger, word press and other blogging sites to transmit their mental disease like a plague to a wasteland of willing victims. We are NOT giving up our fight, and have not decided to back down. Instead, we have found a new, much better home. And it is indeed shiny and chock full of awesome!http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif
